Our standards

Every calculator on Numbarn is built with accuracy, transparency, and usefulness as primary goals. We aim to provide clear explanations of the formulas used, cite authoritative sources, and present results honestly — including the limitations of each estimate.

How calculators are built

• Formulas are sourced from published references (IRS publications, CDC/WHO guidelines, peer-reviewed research, government agencies).
• Each calculator is tested against known reference values and edge cases before publishing.
• The formula, a worked example, and sources are displayed on each calculator page so users can verify the math independently.

Ownership and review roles

• Primary authoring and implementation is handled by the Numbarn operator.
• Finance pages are reviewed against IRS/CFPB/SEC references and annual limit updates.
• Health pages are reviewed against CDC/WHO/NIH or equivalent reference material.
• Education/math pages are reviewed against standard formula references.

How we maintain accuracy

• Financial calculators (tax brackets, contribution limits, standard deductions) are reviewed when the IRS or relevant agencies publish updated figures — typically at the start of each tax year.
• Health calculators are reviewed when the underlying research or guidelines are updated by their source organizations.
• We monitor user-reported errors and investigate every report.

Editorial independence

Calculator formulas and results are never influenced by advertising or affiliate partnerships. Sponsored content and affiliate links are clearly labeled and separated from calculator functionality. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.

Corrections

If you find an error in any calculator — wrong formula, outdated data, incorrect result — please report it. Include the calculator name, the inputs you used, the result you received, and the result you expected. We investigate every report and publish corrections promptly.

Limitations

All calculators produce estimates, not definitive answers. Real-world outcomes depend on factors these tools cannot model. We encourage users to treat results as starting points for further research and professional consultation — not as final answers.
