Age Calculator
Adjust the inputs below. Results update as you type.
How it works
Enter your date of birth and the target date (defaults to today). The calculator counts full calendar years, then remaining months, then remaining days. Leap years and month-length differences are handled automatically. For legal age checks, confirm the jurisdiction's definition of 'age attained' as rules can differ by one day around birthdays.
Input guidance
- Confirm date/time/unit settings before comparing outputs.
- If a task has optional fields, run both with and without them to understand impact.
- Save scenario variants when making practical decisions.
The formula
Age = current date − birth date, expressed in years, months, and days by counting completed years first, then remaining months and days.
Worked example
Born March 15, 2000, on June 18, 2026 you are 26 years, 3 months, and 3 days old.
More examples to test
- Quick-pass example: run default assumptions for a first estimate.
- Refined example: update one assumption at a time to isolate impact.
How to interpret results
Use outputs as operational estimates and pair them with local constraints, business rules, or provider requirements.
When this can be inaccurate
Utilities can miss local policy details, special-case rules, and environment-specific constraints.

Frequently asked questions
How is age calculated exactly?+
By subtracting the birth date from today, accounting for how many full years, then months, then days have passed — not just subtracting the years.
Does it handle leap years?+
Yes. A correct calculation accounts for leap days, so the day count stays accurate across February 29ths.
Can I find age on a future or past date?+
Yes. Set any reference date instead of today to find how old someone was or will be on that date.
Why are outputs slightly different from another tool?+
Different tools can use different rounding rules, default assumptions, and treatment of edge cases.
How can I improve estimate reliability?+
Use verified inputs from real records and re-run calculations after major assumption changes.
