Typing Speed Test

Adjust the inputs below. Results update as you type.

How it works

WPM = (characters typed / 5) / minutes. Gross WPM counts all keystrokes; net WPM subtracts errors. Average typist: 40–50 WPM. Professional typist: 70–100 WPM. Speed records exceed 200 WPM. Touch typing (without looking at keys) is significantly faster than hunt-and-peck. QWERTY layout persists despite alternatives (Dvorak, Colemak) showing modest speed advantages after relearning.
